Parallel Events

At the ground floor lobby, there will be a continuous video wall screening of John Cage’s work 49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs (1977), at the video version directed by Don Gillespie, Roberta Friedman and Gene Caprioglio, interrupted only by the performance of Elliot Sharp’s work.

At the 5th floor foyer, there will be a continuous screening of the films FluxFilm Anthology by George Maciunas, Points in Space: Merce Cunningham Dance by Merce Cunningham, John Cage and Elliot Caplan, and Ellis Island / Book of Days by Meredith Monk.

The events at the foyers are based on events scores by George Brecht, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Alison Knowles, John Cage, Dick Higgins et al.

A small wind ensemble intervenes with folk and other music, adapted by Anargyros Deniozos. Pianist Dimitris Ventourakis performs Tom Johnson’s (b. 1939) work The Chord Catalogue (1986).

Music played on the speakers of the elevators is from the original soundtrack of the film Forbidden Planet (1956), scored by Bebe and Louis Barron.
