Le Grand Ballet is a participatory performance which takes the form of a peculiar dance party for children with a duet of viola da gamba and electric guitar.

A production by Zonzo Compagnie in co-production with Ictus Ensemble and Concertgebouw Brugge, Le Grand Ballet explores how the score can be used, written or shared by youngsters in very different ways.

"Dance along to music from the time of the Sun King"
Anno 1715, Versailles. In the private chambers of the Sun King, a peculiar ritual takes place: about a hundred guests witness the creation of a new work for viola da gamba and continuo from the hand of court composer Marin Marais. The King listens demurely at first, but then, to the loyal audience's surprise, gradually starts moving. The court has no other choise but to follow and scrupulously imitate their King. A weird choreography comes about: something between yoga exercises, a baroque court dance and an eminent aerobics class.

Le Grand Ballet premiered on October 14th of 2018 in Brugge Concertgebouw and toured subsequently in Gent, Brussels, Antwerp en Lille (France).  For more information visit the official page here.
