It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ana-Maria Avram, hyper-spectral composer and co-conductor of Hyperion Ensemble.
Since 1988, Ana-Maria Avram had been a member and co-conductor of Hyperion Ensemble with her husband Iancu Dumitrescu, who together pushed the Romanian avant-garde into the hyper-spectral realm. She has composed somewhere around 150 works and over 300 combined with Dumitrescu, including compositions for soloists, orchestras, and chamber ensembles, as well as works based in electronics and computers.
The musicians she worked with include Kronos Quartet, l’Orchestre National de France, Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra, Romanian National Orchestra, Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra, L’Orchestre de Chambre de Roumanie, Radio-France, CCMIX, Ars Nova Ensemble and Institut International de Musique Electroacoustique Bourges.
Founder and director, with Iancu Dumitrescu, of the International Festival of Electronic and Computer Music "Acousmania" Bucharest, - in partnership with Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation, "Musica Nova" International festival (Ploiesti), Spectrum XXI -(Paris, London, Geneva, Nrussels, Berlin, Mons, Bucharest), Siberfest 2007 ( Sibiu).Founder of the Romanian Community of Electronic and Computer Music ( 2004) . Vice- President of CIME ( Intenational Cummunity of Electronic Music – UNESCO).
Ana Maria contributed a very special approach to the INTERFACES project and her very visceral passion for the music that she and Iancu Dumitrescu composed and performed was a model of artistic engagement.
