Manifeste 2018-the programme is out!
News

Learn and unlearn, code and decode the world; four verbs that define a festival and an academy, the Forum Vertigo and the multidisciplinary exhibition at the Centre Pompidou. Learning between humans and machines, deep and unsupervised computer learning, unlearning skills with the European ensemble ULYSSES; the intrigue of ManiFeste-2018 can be found between human intelligence and algorithms, from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to Georges Aperghis’ robot-totem.

Long before today’s widespread illusions prompted by artificial intelligence, “code” was a part of artistic fantasy. Music was a pioneer with the advent of electronics and computer music. Musical primacy vis-à-vis sciences (Xenakis), disproportionate quantities vis-à-vis numbers (Stockhausen), simulation vis-à-vis man and machine accelerated by younger generations of musicians. Learn? The academic question is renewed as IRCAM seeks out alert researchers rather than scholars, the “ignorant master” rather than the ignored master.

ManiFeste-2018, a journey through labyrinths of learning, of forgetful creation.
